Night Flight

Night Flight balances the bold and the delicate, with a mood of dark romance. A reconstructed and mirrored linocut forms a fantastical bee, with feather-like form and detail, made possible by digital printing.

Like all of Wild Lone's designs, Night Flight is inspired by a book: Anthony Doerr’s Pulitzer Prize-winning All the Light we Cannot See. In its haunting, opening pages, WW2 bomber planes cross the English channel at midnight, heading for St Malo, where at the centre of the story lies the  Hôtel des Abeilles (Hotel of Bees). Night Flight is an imaginative take on this theme. Printed on a subtly-pearlescent and textured paper, drones of a delicate, insectile variety travel through the void, their transformative nature telling an alternative story.
